Angel

I have a sister who’s like an angel that God sent to us. She was named Angelene means “messenger; angel or messenger of God”.My sister is not the first born but she is our eldest. The first born ‘Leo’ died of Meningitis at the age of 7 months old. It was devastating for my parents to lose a child especially first born. It was like a dreamy paradise to an unexpected tragedy. After 1 and half years, my mother conceived again and that is the beginning of how my sister brighten up my parents when she came to their lives. My sister was an angel, light and hope for fixing their broken hearts from their first born.

I can still remember what my Grandmother stories about my sister when she’s still a child, that she could emptied by herself a whole pot of “lugaw” in every meal with banana. Then, there’s also one time when they attended to the church for mass, she bit another kid after she was teased and provoked. I would never forget the time when Grandma said that when she was in Grade 3, she had black eye after being so mean to her classmate that results punching her. There is a story also that made me laugh and sometimes relate when she got jealous of someone’s slippers that got her interest , she would hid them and make the owners go home without their slippers. She’s a typical child full of mischief proven by my Grandmother’s stories.

She is brave and beautiful that in every problems, she encountered it with a kind heart. I salute my sister on how she takes part of the responsibility that was left by my father after he died. I admire her strength in holding on even my brother’s heart was broken down to pieces and caused him a mental illness. My sister was so strong even she saw my mother’s vulnerability instead of comforting her, she became mother’s strength. She has a strong personality and kind soul that makes her brave and beautiful to me.

She leads not because of being eldest but with love for her siblings. She took all the risk so we can have an easy way. She tried to learn everything and teaches us the value of life. She guides and suggest options for what problem we are facing. She act like a leader but she is also our sister. She leads not because of being eldest but with love for her siblings. She is diligent and wise that you can see her achievements hanging on our walls. She told me that life then was hard for not having electricity. She was able to experience from lamp to electricity. She made me realize that with or without electricity, if you worked hard enough, you can excel in academics. Now, she is a Juris Doctor of Law. I admire her talents on how she balanced work and school at the same time. I am also amazed that she can also give money to mother even she’s paying on her own financial needs as a student. I know someday, she will be someone she wants to be and we’ll be here supporting her.

Truly, she is an angel in disguise. In her every story, I learned that life is not hard if you look it in another way. She’s one of my important person that keeps me going, strive harder and survive. She’s not perfect but good enough for me to feel loved and inspired. Sometimes, we might be fighting like dogs and cats or acting like best friends, but our sibling relationship is never boring.
