COMMITTING TO COMMUNICATION

“BA COMMUNICATION? Isn’t that degree a waste of time and effort?”

Chasing your dream is one of the most difficult and crucial decisions an individual has to make in their lives. Being able to achieve that dream while doing the thing you love the most is one of the greatest pleasure a living soul could ever ask for. You will always get to choose to do what you love even if that passion and dream of yours is being questioned by many.

Communication, for some, is just a piece of cake. Studying Communication has always been stereotyped and called out to be cliche. A lot of people has their thoughts towards this degree program which leads to undermining the real essence and purpose of it.

Being on my Second Year of studying BA Communication, I can say that it is far too different compared to other people’s assumption about my degree.

Studying Communication is all fun and games until you run out of time complying all the pieces of stuff that needs to be done while meeting your deadlines. Your body clock gets ruined and is officially a part of the sleep-deprived-club.

Talking in front of many people, speaking fluently, writing easily, taking pictures and videos perfectly, editing and everything that has something to do with communication used to be very easy for me just like what other people thought it was. As time went by, little does everyone know about all the adrenaline rush that ran through my veins every time I am asked to talk in front of a crowd. Nobody knows about the stress I had to endure in writing articles. I never mentioned how filming, looking for perfect angles and editing everything in one sitting is frustrating and at the same time draining.

Lack of sleep, skipping meals, emotional breakdowns, separation anxiety, name it all. I’ve experienced all the things typical students could go through and encounter in pursuing their dreams.

With that being said, No, Communication for me was never and will never be a wild-goose chase and waste of effort. Every second I pour on this program is worth everything. And that includes my future.
